Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2 July 2026

Most privacy policies explain how a company collects, stores, uses, shares, or sells your data.

Bolus is different.

Bolus is built so that we do not have your medication data in the first place.

  • No account.
  • No cloud storage.
  • No analytics.
  • No advertising.
  • No trackers.
  • No sale of data. Ever.

Your medication information stays on your device.

1. What Bolus stores on your device

Bolus stores and processes your information locally on your phone, tablet, or browser.

This includes:

  • your medication list;
  • doses and schedules;
  • reminders;
  • interaction results;
  • allergies and conditions;
  • kidney function information, including eGFR, if you enter it;
  • pharmacogenomic information, if you enter or import it;
  • medications imported from Apple Health, if you choose to import them;
  • family profiles;
  • doctor reports;
  • emergency cards;
  • your Bolus Pro licence.

This data is processed by Bolus on your device using the app’s local engine and bundled medication database.

We do not receive it. We do not store it. We cannot view it. We cannot restore it.

2. Camera, scanner, pill identification, read-aloud, and reminders

Bolus includes features such as:

  • camera label scanning;
  • barcode scanning;
  • pill identification;
  • read-aloud;
  • medication reminders;
  • local safety checks.

These features run on your device.

Photos, labels, barcodes, pill images, medication names, schedules, and safety results are not uploaded to Syntaxe LTD for processing.

Nothing is sent to us to identify a medicine, analyse your medication list, or generate a report.

Bolus is designed to work with the network switched off. This is not only a privacy statement. It is how the software is built.

3. Apple Health

If you choose to import medications from Apple Health, iOS will show you Apple’s permission screen.

Bolus can read only the specific Apple Health medication information that you approve.

The import is:

  • optional;
  • read-only;
  • performed on your device.

Bolus does not upload Apple Health information to Syntaxe LTD. Bolus does not write medication data back to Apple Health.

4. Emergency card

Bolus can generate an emergency medication card.

The emergency card is generated from the information stored on your device.

If you choose to create or share an emergency card, you control what is included.

Where Bolus uses a QR code or emergency view, the medication information is designed to be carried in the card or link itself and rendered locally for the person viewing it. Syntaxe LTD does not store your emergency card or medication list.

You should only share an emergency card with people you are comfortable allowing to see that information.

5. The honest exceptions

There are a few narrow situations where a network connection may be involved. None of these require Syntaxe LTD to receive your medication data.

A. Buying Bolus Pro

If you buy Bolus Pro, payment is handled by Stripe, our payment processor.

Stripe may process payment details, email address, billing information, transaction information, and related technical information under Stripe’s own privacy policy.

Syntaxe LTD does not store your card details.

After purchase, Bolus receives or imports a signed licence. Your device can verify that licence offline.

Your licence does not require us to receive your medication list, reports, genetics, reminders, or health information.

B. Downloading the app or loading the website

If you download Bolus from the App Store or Google Play, Apple or Google may process download, account, device, payment, receipt, and diagnostic information under their own privacy policies.

If you use the web version of Bolus, our hosting provider may process standard technical logs, such as:

  • IP address;
  • request time;
  • browser type;
  • requested page;
  • basic security and reliability information.

These logs are used for security, reliability, abuse prevention, and service operation. They are not linked to your medication list or what you do inside Bolus.

C. App updates and web caching

The web version of Bolus may cache itself so that it can work offline.

When online, it may check whether a newer version is available.

No personal medication data is included in that update check.

6. What we do not collect

Syntaxe LTD does not collect or receive:

  • your medication list;
  • medication doses;
  • medication schedules;
  • adherence history;
  • interaction results;
  • allergies;
  • conditions;
  • eGFR;
  • pharmacogenomic results;
  • Apple Health medication imports;
  • camera images;
  • barcode scans;
  • pill images;
  • doctor reports;
  • emergency cards;
  • family profile data.

If you voluntarily email us support information, screenshots, reports, or other details, we will receive what you choose to send. You should avoid sending private medical information unless it is necessary for your support request.

7. Your rights and control

Because your Bolus data stays with you, you usually do not need to ask us to access, export, or delete it.

You can:

  • view it by opening Bolus;
  • export it using reports or emergency cards;
  • edit it inside the app;
  • delete it by deleting the app, clearing the app data, or clearing the site’s browser storage.

If you delete Bolus data from your device, Syntaxe LTD cannot restore it because we do not hold a copy.

For any limited personal data that we do process, such as purchase-related records, support emails, or website logs, you may contact us to exercise your data protection rights.

8. Children

Bolus is designed for adults managing their own medications, or managing a family member’s medication through Family Profiles.

Bolus is not directed at children under 13.

Because Bolus does not require an account and does not upload medication data to Syntaxe LTD, we do not knowingly collect medication data about anyone of any age through the app.

9. UK GDPR information

Bolus is made by Syntaxe LTD, a company registered in England and Wales.

For the limited personal data processed outside the app, Syntaxe LTD may act as data controller. This may include:

  • purchase and licence-related processing;
  • payment processing through Stripe;
  • support emails you send us;
  • website and hosting logs;
  • security and reliability records.

The lawful bases we rely on may include:

  • performance of a contract, where processing is needed to provide Bolus Pro, licence access, or support;
  • legitimate interests, where processing is needed to secure, maintain, improve, and operate our services;
  • legal obligation, where we must retain certain records for tax, accounting, regulatory, or legal reasons.

Health information that you enter into Bolus is processed locally on your own device and is not transmitted to, stored by, or analysed by Syntaxe LTD. For that locally processed medication and health information, Syntaxe LTD is not receiving or holding the data.

You may lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change how Bolus handles data, we will update this Privacy Policy and revise the effective date.

The core privacy design of Bolus is local-first and Zero Cloud. Weakening that design would require a product change, not merely an edit to this policy.
