Bolus is designed to help you understand your medicines. This page explains, plainly, what Bolus is and what it is not, so you can use it well.
Bolus is decision support, not a medical device
Bolus is informational decision-support software. It is not a regulated medical device. It is built to help you see what to watch for across your medicines, food, supplements, and conditions, and to give you something clear to discuss with a professional.
It does not diagnose or treat
Bolus does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. It does not prescribe. It does not replace the judgement of your pharmacist, doctor, or other qualified healthcare professional.
Always confirm before you change anything
Always speak to your pharmacist or doctor before you start, stop, or change any medication, dose, or schedule. An alert in Bolus is a prompt to ask a question, not an instruction to act on your own.
Not for emergencies
Bolus is not for emergencies. If you think you are having a medical emergency, or you feel seriously unwell, do not wait and do not rely on the app. Call your local emergency number or seek urgent medical help straight away.
The information may be incomplete
Medicine information is large and changes over time, and no database can cover every product, every combination, or every person. Bolus may not include a particular medicine or interaction, and its general guidance may not apply to your individual circumstances, your full medical history, or a specific clinical situation. The absence of a warning does not guarantee that a combination is safe for you.
You remain in charge of your care
You are responsible for the decisions you make about your health, made together with a qualified professional who knows your situation. Bolus is there to help you have a better-informed conversation, not to replace it.
Sources and trademarks
Bolus draws on public and curated sources, including the FDA NDC directory, DailyMed drug labels, RxNorm, the NHS dictionary of medicines and devices (dm+d), SNOMED CT, and PubMed literature, along with the AGS Beers Criteria® 2023 and STOPP and START. Beers Criteria® is a registered mark of the American Geriatrics Society.
